Why We Play At Wallsend RFC - Jack & Carlisle's Story

Sam Climpson10 Jul - 15:38

Two different journeys. One Wallsend RFC family.

"You won't regret it. You'll always feel welcome. We work hard, have loads of fun and rugby has become part of who I am."

Jack & Carlisle's Story

Every player has their own reason for picking up a rugby ball. For Jack, it was a recommendation from a family friend while looking for a new hobby. For Carlisle, it was hearing how much his older cousin had enjoyed playing for Wallsend RFC.

Although they joined the club in different ways, both found exactly the same thing a welcoming team that quickly became a second family. "I was really nervous walking onto the pitch," Jack remembers. "But I got a high five from one of the coaches and all the lads cheered. Straight away I felt welcome."

Carlisle had a similar experience.
"Everyone was really friendly and they welcomed me into the team. I enjoyed it from the very first training session."

It wasn't long before rugby became much more than a Sunday morning sport.

For Jack, it's the friendships and the pride of representing his hometown that stand out.
"I've made some of my best friends here. Ryan and Davy are brilliant coaches and I love representing my local club."

Carlisle agrees that the people make Wallsend RFC special.
"My teammates are my favourite part. We've become really good mates and everyone encourages each other if someone's having a tough game. I honestly wouldn't want to play anywhere else."

Both boys also have moments they'll never forget.

Jack still remembers pulling on the green and gold shirt for his first home game.
"I loved wearing the full kit for the first time. Sundays are just better when you're out there making tackles with your mates."

For Carlisle, it was hearing praise from an opposition player after scoring a try.
"One of their lads told me I'd played mint. That made me feel really proud."

Beyond the rugby itself, both boys feel they've grown as people.

Jack arrived without any rugby experience at all.
"I've learnt everything here, not just rugby skills, but how to encourage teammates and work together."

Carlisle has noticed the difference too.
"Rugby has made me more confident, fitter and stronger. The coaches are always helping me improve and I feel like I get better every week."

So what would they say to another child who's thinking about giving rugby a try?

Jack doesn't hesitate.
"You won't regret it. You'll always feel welcome. We work hard, have loads of fun and rugby has become part of who I am."

Carlisle's advice is just as simple.
"It builds your confidence, helps you become a better person and everyone is so friendly. The club gives you so much support."

Listening to Jack and Carlisle, one thing becomes clear.

Wallsend RFC isn't just about learning how to pass, tackle or score tries. It's about building confidence, making lifelong friends and becoming part of a team that supports you every step of the way.

If you've ever thought about giving rugby a go, why not come along and see what it's all about? Just like Jack and Carlisle, you might discover that your first training session is only the beginning of something special.
